A somewhat belated Happy Birthday to Mr. Iwata!

December 6th… already!

Wow, time flies!

December 6th (as I learned today) happens to be the birthday of the global president of Nintendo – Satoru Iwata!

According to the timezone converter, it’s around 7:30 in the morning in Japan, December 7th, as I post this, so it’s somewhat belated, but:

Happy 54th Birthday, Mr. Iwata!

Wow, what an interesting twist for the Wily Castle Remix Gauntlet 2013!

Today, the Mega Man: Wily Castle Remix Gauntlet 2013 kicked off with the first gauntlet theme announced, but it certainly wasn’t a gauntlet theme anyone was expecting!

DarkeSword, the competition’s organizer, kept mentioning a “mysterious benefactor” for the back story of the competition. It turns out that the mysterious benefactor for Dr. Wily’s return from the previous gauntlet is… Disney!

From the first post in the competition’s thread:

They bought Pixar. They bought Marvel. They bought Lucasfilm.

And now, the House of Mouse has gone ahead and bought out the nefarious Dr. Wily! That’s right everyone, The Walt Disney Company now owns Wily’s Castles! But what does that mean!? It means that instead of combining your Robot Master themes with themes from the Wily Castles, you’ll be combining them from themes from all those old, classic Capcom-Disney games!

In other words, remixers will not be combining their Robot Master’s theme with a Wily Castle theme as in the previous competition. Instead, remixers will be combining their Robot Master’s theme with a selected level theme from a Disney & Capcom game! 😀

This week’s theme is: Adventures in the Magic Kingdom – Pirate Island!

I’m really excited combining a Robot Master’s theme with a Disney & Capcom game level theme. I really enjoyed games such as Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, and Goof Troop growing up, so this’ll be really fun! 🙂

As one competition draws to a close… another is soon to begin!

Hey there!

Well, as of 1 P.M. (Central Standard Time) today, the Mega Man & Sonic the Hedgehog – Blue Bomber Blue Blur Collision Competition on the OverClocked ReMix forums drew to a close with the final voting stage of the competition.

I just wanted to give props to everyone for some amazing remixes! 😀

Well done, everyone!

However, another remix competition is coming up around the middle of July – Mega Man: The Wily Castle Remix Gauntlet 2013!

In this competition, you group up into teams of 3, and each entrant / team member selects 5 Robot Masters from the classic Mega Man series games.

Each remixer has to select 5 Robot Masters due to the possibility of conflicts – two people picking the same thing for their first Robot Master choice, for example. If there are no conflicts with someone else’s first Robot Master pick, then you will get your first Robot Master choice (and, therefore, will use that Robot Master’s stage theme for the rest of the competition). Otherwise, conflicts are resolved with the roll of a dice, and the competition organizer will move down your list (or the other person’s list, depending on who lost the dice roll), and you / they will get the next Robot Master in the respective person’s list (unless there are conflicts with that Robot Master, then another roll of the dice will occur between the conflicting choices). 🙂

Once all of the conflicts are resolved, the competition begins with the competition organizer selecting a Wily Castle theme from the classic Mega Man games. You and your team then decide who’ll remix that week and then said remixer shall have one week to write a remix combining their respective Robot Master’s stage theme and the Wily Castle theme. Since this is a team-based competition, remixers can get help from their team in the form of feedback, adding instrumentation, or adding solos to their remixes, for example.

When all is said and done, each remixer on the team will have remixed three times.

At the end of each week, all of the remixes from that round will be archived in a .zip file which can then be downloaded. Voting threads will be created where everyone can vote for their top three remixes in the round (this year, due to almost having 15 teams, it may be top five). This will happen each week until the conclusion of the competition. At that point, the voting tallies will be summed up, and the team with the most points will win!

For this competition, Xarnax42, zach72, and I have teamed up once again on team Energy Tank! (Thanks guys!)

It was the same team I joined back in 2011 (when I didn’t know… well… anything), so hopefully I won’t be quite as terrible at remixing this time.

With that said, I’ve selected the following Robot Masters:

(If you’d like to listen to each theme, I’ve included a link to a YouTube video for each Robot Master!)

So, as per the rules above, if no one else claims Pump Man as their number one pick, then that’s the Robot Master theme I’ll be combining with whatever Wily Castle theme is selected for that week! 😀

I’m quite excited to see what my teammates pick, as well as what everyone’ll come up with!

Remixes and backlog goals for June

Hey there!

So, we are now eight days into June. Time certainly flies!

The Mega Man & Sonic the Hedgehog – The Blue Bomber, Blue Blur Collision Competition is currently ongoing on the OverClocked ReMix forums; however, it’s winding down now, with each remixer having two more opponents before the competition’s exciting conclusion!

For my entry this week, I haven’t had a lot of time to focus on it due to work / erratic hours… I do have something, but I’m not sure if it’s so great. 😦 I’m pretty sure my opponent’s entry will blow it out of the water quite easily.

On that topic, I’ve been posting links to all of my entries on the Remixes page, if you’d like to check them out!

On another subject, I’ve been reading this thread at NeoGAF, and have been making a list for this month of games I’d like to try to beat.

As per the number in the thread’s title, here are the four I’ll try to beat this month (when free time presents itself… which seems to be increasingly elusive, unfortunately):

  • Pandora’s Tower (Wii)
  • Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure (Nintendo DS)
  • Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars (Wii)
  • Touch Detective (Nintendo DS) Completed!

So, what are your backlog gaming goals this month?

Thanks for stopping by / reading!

The competition begins! (Or… has already… but still!)

Hello everyone!

Well, yesterday, the ‘Mega Man & Sonic the Hedgehog – Blue Bomber, Blue Blur Collision Competition‘ began on the OverClocked ReMix forums!

As I mentioned in a previous post, entrants were split up into teams of 6 – one team representing the Blue Bomber (Mega Man), and one team representing the Blue Blur (Sonic the Hedgehog). Entrants then, basically, have one week to combine their source and their opponent’s source into one, cohesive remix.

I’m on Team Blue Blur. 🙂

My source tune for this competition is from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 – it’s the Chrome Gadget Zone.

Matchups were posted the other day, and my first matchup is between me and jefepatronjoshi, who picked Burst Man!

Mixes for this first round are due Sunday, at 4 P.M. (Eastern Daylight Time). A little while afterward, all of the mixes will be archived and available for download in the first post of the competition’s main thread!

Once the mixes are officially posted, I’ll probably upload my entry to my SoundCloud page and my Last.fm artist page. I’d also be happy to post a link to a download of the .WAV file for my entry, if you want that.

Either way, I’m really looking forward to everyone’s entries for this round! 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Practicing EQ

Hi there!

Well, in my last post, I mentioned a music remix competition.

So, I thought it’d be a good idea to practice – especially in my weakest area: production.

So, I downloaded a MIDI to practice on from VGMusic and reinstrumentated it and then tried to balance out all of the sounds of the new instruments – EQ’ing everything so that it could be heard clearly and so nothing wouldn sound ‘boxy’.

Here’s the result.

I was trying to go for an ’80’s sound’.

But that snare is so hard to get right. 😦

Full credit goes to King Meteor for sequencing the MIDI!

And thanks for reading / listening!

What’s up?

Hey everyone!

*checks date

Only 3 years since I’ve posted anything here… not too long…

So, what’s up?

Well… one thing I’ve been up to recently is entering a video game music remix competition on the OverClocked ReMix forums, titled ‘Mega Man & Sonic the Hedgehog – Blue Bomber Blue Blur Collision Competition‘!

For this remix competition, once it begins, 12 participants will be divided into teams of 6 – one team representing the Blue Bomber (Mega Man), and one team representing the Blue Blur (Sonic the Hedgehog). Initially, each remixer picked 3 sources from each series (since they’ll be divided into teams later, as mentioned above). If you’re interested in who picked what, here’s a list of songs each remixer picked! Once teams have been formed, each remixer will be pitted against a remixer on the other team, each week for six weeks.

I initially entered on the Blue Bomber’s team, but it turned out several others wanted to be on the Blue Bomber’s team as well!

So, in order to balance the teams, and in deference to my friends who love to mix Mega Man, I, and therex, gladly agreed to switch to the Blue Blur’s side.

I’m not entirely sure how DarkeSword will determine teams in the end… but…

Either way, regardless of team, I’m just excited to remix!

I’ve entered under my forum name, Mr. L, but I’m hoping I can tag my entries with my Last.fm artist name, which is Warp Star Knight; I plan to upload my entries there for anyone and everyone to listen to / download them if they wish (same with my SoundCloud page)!

Thanks for reading!

I do hope to have something for you to listen to soon! 😀
