Today, the Mega Man: Wily Castle Remix Gauntlet 2013 kicked off with the first gauntlet theme announced, but it certainly wasn’t a gauntlet theme anyone was expecting!
DarkeSword, the competition’s organizer, kept mentioning a “mysterious benefactor” for the back story of the competition. It turns out that the mysterious benefactor for Dr. Wily’s return from the previous gauntlet is… Disney!
From the first post in the competition’s thread:
They bought Pixar. They bought Marvel. They bought Lucasfilm.
And now, the House of Mouse has gone ahead and bought out the nefarious Dr. Wily! That’s right everyone, The Walt Disney Company now owns Wily’s Castles! But what does that mean!? It means that instead of combining your Robot Master themes with themes from the Wily Castles, you’ll be combining them from themes from all those old, classic Capcom-Disney games!
In other words, remixers will not be combining their Robot Master’s theme with a Wily Castle theme as in the previous competition. Instead, remixers will be combining their Robot Master’s theme with a selected level theme from a Disney & Capcom game! 😀
This week’s theme is: Adventures in the Magic Kingdom – Pirate Island!
I’m really excited combining a Robot Master’s theme with a Disney & Capcom game level theme. I really enjoyed games such as Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, and Goof Troop growing up, so this’ll be really fun! 🙂
