As one competition draws to a close… another is soon to begin!

Hey there!

Well, as of 1 P.M. (Central Standard Time) today, the Mega Man & Sonic the Hedgehog – Blue Bomber Blue Blur Collision Competition on the OverClocked ReMix forums drew to a close with the final voting stage of the competition.

I just wanted to give props to everyone for some amazing remixes! 😀

Well done, everyone!

However, another remix competition is coming up around the middle of July – Mega Man: The Wily Castle Remix Gauntlet 2013!

In this competition, you group up into teams of 3, and each entrant / team member selects 5 Robot Masters from the classic Mega Man series games.

Each remixer has to select 5 Robot Masters due to the possibility of conflicts – two people picking the same thing for their first Robot Master choice, for example. If there are no conflicts with someone else’s first Robot Master pick, then you will get your first Robot Master choice (and, therefore, will use that Robot Master’s stage theme for the rest of the competition). Otherwise, conflicts are resolved with the roll of a dice, and the competition organizer will move down your list (or the other person’s list, depending on who lost the dice roll), and you / they will get the next Robot Master in the respective person’s list (unless there are conflicts with that Robot Master, then another roll of the dice will occur between the conflicting choices). 🙂

Once all of the conflicts are resolved, the competition begins with the competition organizer selecting a Wily Castle theme from the classic Mega Man games. You and your team then decide who’ll remix that week and then said remixer shall have one week to write a remix combining their respective Robot Master’s stage theme and the Wily Castle theme. Since this is a team-based competition, remixers can get help from their team in the form of feedback, adding instrumentation, or adding solos to their remixes, for example.

When all is said and done, each remixer on the team will have remixed three times.

At the end of each week, all of the remixes from that round will be archived in a .zip file which can then be downloaded. Voting threads will be created where everyone can vote for their top three remixes in the round (this year, due to almost having 15 teams, it may be top five). This will happen each week until the conclusion of the competition. At that point, the voting tallies will be summed up, and the team with the most points will win!

For this competition, Xarnax42, zach72, and I have teamed up once again on team Energy Tank! (Thanks guys!)

It was the same team I joined back in 2011 (when I didn’t know… well… anything), so hopefully I won’t be quite as terrible at remixing this time.

With that said, I’ve selected the following Robot Masters:

(If you’d like to listen to each theme, I’ve included a link to a YouTube video for each Robot Master!)

So, as per the rules above, if no one else claims Pump Man as their number one pick, then that’s the Robot Master theme I’ll be combining with whatever Wily Castle theme is selected for that week! 😀

I’m quite excited to see what my teammates pick, as well as what everyone’ll come up with!

The competition begins! (Or… has already… but still!)

Hello everyone!

Well, yesterday, the ‘Mega Man & Sonic the Hedgehog – Blue Bomber, Blue Blur Collision Competition‘ began on the OverClocked ReMix forums!

As I mentioned in a previous post, entrants were split up into teams of 6 – one team representing the Blue Bomber (Mega Man), and one team representing the Blue Blur (Sonic the Hedgehog). Entrants then, basically, have one week to combine their source and their opponent’s source into one, cohesive remix.

I’m on Team Blue Blur. 🙂

My source tune for this competition is from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 – it’s the Chrome Gadget Zone.

Matchups were posted the other day, and my first matchup is between me and jefepatronjoshi, who picked Burst Man!

Mixes for this first round are due Sunday, at 4 P.M. (Eastern Daylight Time). A little while afterward, all of the mixes will be archived and available for download in the first post of the competition’s main thread!

Once the mixes are officially posted, I’ll probably upload my entry to my SoundCloud page and my artist page. I’d also be happy to post a link to a download of the .WAV file for my entry, if you want that.

Either way, I’m really looking forward to everyone’s entries for this round! 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Practicing EQ

Hi there!

Well, in my last post, I mentioned a music remix competition.

So, I thought it’d be a good idea to practice – especially in my weakest area: production.

So, I downloaded a MIDI to practice on from VGMusic and reinstrumentated it and then tried to balance out all of the sounds of the new instruments – EQ’ing everything so that it could be heard clearly and so nothing wouldn sound ‘boxy’.

Here’s the result.

I was trying to go for an ’80’s sound’.

But that snare is so hard to get right. 😦

Full credit goes to King Meteor for sequencing the MIDI!

And thanks for reading / listening!
